• Marriage can be dissolved as provided by law through divorce or annulment 

• Party seeking the dissolution of marriage, separation or an annulment must provide grounds for same

• There are 13 grounds for divorce in the State of Georgia

• Irretrievably Broken is commonly referred to as the "No Fault" grounds for divorce

• All other 12 grounds for the dissolution of marriage or annulment are "Fault" grounds

• "No Fault" grounds provide for dissolution of the marriage based on the refusal of one of the parties involved to co-habit with the other citing irreconcilable differences. It is not essential to prove any wrongdoing by the other party or that the other party is at fault

• "Fault" grounds provide the opposite of "No Fault", in that, it must be proven that the other party in the marriage is at fault or has wrongfully harmed the marriage based on certain facts. 

• "Fault" grounds cover a wide variety of legal descriptions including abandonment or desertion for at least a year, adultery, mental or physical cruel treatment, impotency at the time of the marriage, mental illness, fraud, duress or forceful action to obtain the marriage, conviction of a felony and imprisonment for 2 years or longer and other grounds such as pregnancy prior to the marriage by a man other than the husband which was unknown to the husband, habitual drug habits and (intermarriage) marriage between two persons too closely related
